Lutz Fritsch Auf ganzer Linie

The presentation in the ›Eifelraum‹ shows a large-format sculpture and wall works from the series »Auf ganzer Linie« by sculptor Lutz Fritsch. Furthermore, a new edition has been published that invites active participation.

The motivation and aim of his work is to reduce an idea to the essential in order to create new perceptual impulses. To this end, Lutz Fritsch has been working with line, surface, space, and color since the beginning of his artistic practice. His sculptural works in exterior and interior spaces are precise compositions that are developed out of the space and allow it to be experienced in a new way.

In the ›Eifelraum‹, Lutz Fritsch places a 7-meter-long horizontal line, painted in bright orange, diagonally into the room. He hangs a vertical red line on the wall, measuring only a fraction of length and diameter. While one rests on two narrow trestles, the other meets the viewer at eye level. In the tense dialogue between the unequal lines, the human being enters as a ›walking vertical‹ (Lutz Fritsch), as a reference point to experience »Die Erhabenheit der Linie« (»The Sublime of the Line«), as the two-part sculpture is titled.

The works »Auf ganzer Linie« hang on the wall in an offset position and reflect the artist’s ongoing exploration of line and surface and their relationship to and with each other. A red lacquered aluminum line is tangent to a matt indigo or orange glowing, irregular surface. The reduced formal variance of the works clearly shows how line and surface are mutually dependent and define each other.

The new edition »Alles geregelt«, made of lacquered wood, consists of a grey line placed in the middle on a yellow cube and a smaller red cube placed on top of the line. The latter is not fixed and can be moved from left to right like a slider, meaning it can be adjusted to suit the individual mood or state of mind. By allowing you to actively change the work, the artist Lutz Fritsch lets you share his joy with and for the line.
